Résumé : The present paper introduces a new hybrid RANS/LES turbulence model for urban flows CFD simulations called Flow-Based Stress-Blended Eddy Simulation (Fb-SBES). The blending from RANS to LES is performed on-the-fly, based on a numerical parameter that quantifies the deviation of the flow to the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) conditions. The hybrid framework allows to solve the RANS equation in the major portion of the domain (88% in average for a single building) and perform LES in the proximity of the build environment. The RANS closure is an advanced k- ε turbulence model that is tuned to be consistent with the neutral ABL conditions. Fb-SBES provides a notable improvement for the prediction of the mean streamwise velocity component compared to the advanced RANS model but also compared to a DDES.
