Résumé : The studies done by numerous European workers, mostly on extremely solid scientific bases, have established the link between various factors responsible for the genesis of malignant tumors of the ethmoid and of the facial massif. One of these factors is related to the occupation of wood-working and it particularly depends on the worker's exposure to fine particles of wood with a high content of condensed tannins. The authors recommend: 1) the recognition of this condition as an occupational disease; 2) taking the maximum trouble with the control of dust in affected work-places, if not the wearing of an antidust mask; 3) that works' doctors should carry out, at the workman's recruitment and at least once a year thereafter in workmen exposed to wooddusts, a thorough examination of the upper respiratory passages, with special attention to: X-ray examination, sampling of the mucus, examination of the nasal septum and nasopharynx, and possibly a biopsy of the mucous membrane; 4) that combined scientific researches should be encouraged.
