Résumé : | The climate crisis shapes and is shaped by inequalities. This nexus takes the question of justice to the core of the European Union’s climate agenda. Within this framework, the notion of just transition is increasingly presented as a pillar for achieving the European climate neutrality target by 2050, while ‘ensuring that no one is left behind’. This chapter discusses the inequalities arising from climate change and the climate transition and explores their link with environmental justice and legal rights. The chapter is ultimately concerned with whether and how the European Green Deal (EGD) embraces this link to achieve a just climate transition. With a particular focus on participatory justice and procedural rights, the chapter argues that the EGD’s approach to social-environmental justice is too narrow, failing to deeply engage with the contribution of those affected by climate inequalities. |
