Résumé : In 1973, an architect and a farmer met in the highlands of Sugadaira, Japan. This was the start of an unusual building process in which the former sent drawings to the latter, who took on the construction of a giant steel drum alone. This text proposes to examine Osamu Ishiyama's ‘Farmer's House’ (1973-1986) from the perspective of extinction. In the face of extinction, the house can be said to do three things. It exposes itself to the outside, diversifies technologies and documents loss. Overall, does it not enlarge our understanding of technology to a richer set of possibilities?
