Résumé : Based on the scientific papers kept in the ULB Archives, the paper studies the genesis of Pirenne's thesis on Mohammed and Charlemagne through the lecture notes, Pirenne's annotations, the articles published from 1922 to 1934 and the publishing file of the posthumous book published by Jacques Pirenne in 1937. It also looks at the German translation by Paul-Egon Hübinger published under the Nazi regime in 1939.
