Résumé : The present paper intends to discuss the ‘crisis’ of political parties by exploring an embryonic research program in US political science that investigates political parties through networks. After the review of the related theory, the analysis focuses on the role of individual donors’ networks in 2016 US presidential elections, and especially before the primary period. Analyzing patterns of donations of those ‘super activists’ would actually be a good indicator of US party organizations functioning not as hierarchical organizations but rather as networks, as reciprocal relationship between entities inside and outside the formal campaign structure. Moreover, pre-primary donations shed an interesting light on the internal state of the party on the eve of the presidential campaign, up to the point that it could be easy to predict who will be the final candidate in each party. The discussion will finally sum up the main findings and the implications regarding the debate on ‘party crisis’.
