Résumé : Starting from a critical reflection on the relation between geography, geographic schools and the socio-economic evolution, the paper emphasizes the necessity to go beyond «classical» radical geography and to include the contributions made by historicized geographical determinism. This approach allows the inclusion of aspects such as cultural buildings and other superstructures. The process is argued to lead to a reunification of social geography with some approaches in physical geography. © Author(s) 2008. This work is distributed.
