Résumé : The data on 112 diseased patients are reviewed. As previously shown by Bresnihan and Jasin, it is found that preincubation of peripheral blood lymphocytes significantly enhances their response to suboptimal doses of concanavalin A, probably through the loss of a short-lived suppressor subpopulation. The determination of the percentages of helper and suppressor-cytotoxic subsets with the OKT4 and OKT8 monoclonal antibodies, and the expression of their balance as the T4:T8 ratio did not help in predicting this short-term suppressor function. Concurrently, a lower suppressive index, 4.6 vs 5.2, is observed in older patients. The CD4 and CD8 phenotypes are not directly involved in the short-term suppression of Con-A mitogenesis.
