Résumé : The νCO infra-red vibration band of 1-formyl-pyrene, recorded in eleven different solvents, always shows two distinct maxima. The relative intensities of these maxima vary with the solvent and may even be inversed; their energetic difference however is relatively constant and is equal to 10 cm-1. This "doublet" is due to the existence of a Fermi resonance between the CO vibration and the first harmonic of a γCH deformation at 855 cm-1. Several other hypothesis are discussed and shown to be unsatisfactory. © 1967.
