Résumé : This is a brief review on the isolation and translation in heterologous systems of a 9S RNA which carries the information of haemoglobin. 9S RNA from rabbit or mouse can be translated in vitro in extracts of reticulocytes from other mammals, or from birds, and in extracts of ascites tumour cells. It is correctly translated also by living xenopus oocytes when injected into these cells. Translation of a foreign messenger by various in vitro systems and by oocytes indicates that the translation machinery of higher organisms is not very restrictive as to the messengers it can accept and translate correctly. © 1972.
