Résumé : Since a few years, mass spectrometry constitutes a new promising tool in microbiology. Allowing a fast and reliable identification of microorganisms, Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption-Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) competes with traditional identification techniques. More recently, direct identification of bacteria and yeasts directly from clinical samples was described. Next to identification and typing applications, MALDI-TOF MS and other recent mass spectrometric technologies such as SELDI-TOF MS and PCR-ESI-MS are interesting tools for genotyping and testing bacterial susceptibility. © 2012.
