Résumé : We have determined ATP and DNA in cultures of E. coli B and B/r, irradiated during the growing phase and cultured in anaerobiosis immediately after. No difference in ATP can be seen during the first hour; the control cells continue to synthesize it until the end of the growth period, but in the irradiated cells on the contrary the ATP concentration begins to drop during the period when DNA synthesis, immediately blocked by irradiation, is resumed. When DNA synthesis is completed, the ATP content of irradiated cells tends to reach a normal value. We have discussed the relationship which seems to exist between ATP metabolism and DNA synthesis, both in aerobiosis and in anaerobiosis. © 1955.
