Résumé : Preoperative radiotherapy, at rather low doses, is generally well tolerated by patients with cancer of the rectum, provided that surgical intervention be undertaken as soon as possible after irradiation. The operation is not disturbed by the adjuvant radiotherapy; on the contrary, the preoperative irradiation improves the rate of resectability of the tumors, diminishes the number of recurrences and hepatic metastases and increases the survival rate of the patients.
