Mémoire
| Résumé : | The advancements and rising importance of telecommunication technology in daily life, especially with the newly introduced Fifth Generation (5G), raise more security concerns about this technology. The air interface in wireless communication is a vital part of the connection but it requires more security research focusing on this topic. One severe attack on the air interface is the RRC Signaling Storm attack targeting the availability of the Control Plane in the network. The objectives of this thesis are to implement a successful attack against a 5G base station, analyze the impacts, and propose an effective attack detection system. Throughout this thesis, many attack methods are tested to find the most impactful one, and one detection system is proposed and used to detect such an attack. This study is the first research that focuses on implementing an RRC Signaling Storm attack with a detection system in 5G network. The attack can render the base station unavailable around 94.19% of the time. Meanwhile, the proposed detection system can detect the attack effectively before the gNB is blocked. These results can be potentially used in future works on different topics. |
