Résumé : | Mangrove forests provide crucial ecosystem services and livelihoods for communities. Effective management through restoration and conservation is essential for degraded areas. This study investigated Community-Based Mangrove Management (CBMM) in Sucre, Colombia, by employing a discourse analysis technique (Q) and Geographic Information System integration, including analysis of remotely sensed data (Landsat satellite imagery) to identify mangrove cover trends (1986-1993 versus 2017-2021). Q methodology identified two main discourses: ‘Optimism in CBMM’ and ‘A call to enhance CBMM,’ highlighting issues such as lack of administrative skills, economic resources, land tenure, and socio-environmental conflicts. Post-sorting interviews revealed urban expansion, logging, and tourism expansion as perceived drivers of mangrove loss. Temporal analysis supported these trends, especially in Rincón del Mar, where tourism has increased. This study reveals critical CBMM trends and challenges in Sucre, emphasizing the importance of incorporating community perspectives into decision-making and policy-making to enhance mangrove conservation efforts. |
