Résumé : | MSP2 is a surface-exposed protein of the Plasmodium falciparum’s merozoite implicated in the red blood cell invasion. Previous studies demonstrate the role of protective antibodies that prevent red blood cell invasion by targeting the MSP2 protein. We suggest that certain mutations affecting this protein in strains which circulate in the city of Kigali might be implicated in an increase of virulence of Plasmodium falciparum by enhancing the red blood cell invasion process. Herein, we identified by amplification, sequencing and alignment of sequences several tandem repeat sequences which might have an influence on high parasitemia level diagnosed in patients. Among these mutations, we observed, by in silico analysis that the Asn-Ala-Pro repeated pattern was associated with a lower antigenicity level of the MSP2 protein. These results suggest that this mutation might be conserved in Plasmodium falciparum because it increases its virulence. |
