Mémoire
Résumé : | This dissertation text presents a study of the comicalness identified in the work of Eduardo Abaroa, Francis Alÿs and Yoshua Okón. They lived and worked in Mexico City in the same art scene at the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s. An art project from the 1990s of each artist was chosen as a case study to develop an analysis of its comical effect based on humor theory, contemporary Mexican history, and the history of comical art in Western art history and modern and contemporary Mexican art history. In order to analyze the case studies and shed light on the reasons for their success and the motivations for their comic attitude, this research addresses theoretical problems of humor, popular culture, art history, performance, and political, economic and social issues in twentieth-century Mexico, particularly during the 1980s and 1990s. |
