Résumé : The new European connectivity strategy, the Global Gateway, aims at connecting the European Union not only inside Europe but also across the globe. The huge similarities found with the Chinese project, the Belt and Road Initiative, have raised doubts whether the Global Gateway may be a counter-act planned by the EU to contrast the Chinese strategy. The recent controversies raised by the Hungarian infringement of the EU law and linked to the first BRI project in Europe, the Budapest-Belgrade Railway Link, have indeed caused an increased level of suspiciousness inside the EU towards the Chinese project. The Global Gateway will try to respond to the new Silk Road and to impose the European standards and values.
