Résumé : Coralsynchronousspawningeventsarecriticaltothefutureofthecoralreefs,especiallyforbroadcastingspeciesas Acropora spp. Theincreasinginterestinthisphenomenonaroundtheworldhas enabledthepredictionofreproductiontimingandhasrevealedtheexistenceofmorethanoneevent peryearinsomereefs.However,forMalaysiathisaspectofthecoralbiologyremainspoorlystudied. Here,weevaluatedthespawningseasonalityofdifferentspeciesofthegenus Acropora inPulau Bidong(Malaysia),byassessingfecundityandoocytefeatures,andbydelimitingthespeciesparticipantineacheventusingmorphologyandmolecularevidences.Theresultsshowedtheoccurrenceoftwospawningevents,oneinAprilandoneinOctober,withdifferentspeciestakingpartineachone.Thefecunditydifferedbetweenthesevenmorphospeciesidentified,howeverthosedifferences werenotassociatedwiththespawningmonth.Themolecularevidenceshowedthatthespeciespresentinbotheventsweredifferent,howeverdidnotallowustodefinetheidentityinsome cases.ThenuclearmarkersPaxCandCalmodulinshowedtheexistenceofgeneticdifferenceswithin morphospecies,andthesedifferenceswereassociatedwiththeirreproductiontime.ThisworksuggeststhatinPulauBidongtherearetwomulti-specificspawningeventswithdifferentAcropora speciesparticipatingineach.Finally,itsupportsthepremisethatintegrativestudieswithmorphological,biologicalandgeneticinformationneedtobedevelopedtobetterunderstandthedynamics ofthecoralcommunitiesinMalaysiatodevelopeffectiveconservationstrategies.
