Mémoire
| Résumé : | As the global population shifts towards urban settings, so does violent conflict. Considering the predictions for this trend to continue, it is imperative to develop knowledge on how urban violence is created, its effects, and how it can be solved. This dissertation focuses on slum-upgrading as a method to reduce urban violence, and attempts to understand what is the impact of International Organisations on the implementation and results of these programmes. This qualitative research utilises the Favela-Bairro programme in Rio de Janeiro as a case study to illustrate the different forms in which international actors can exert influence on a municipal slum upgrading project. |
