Mémoire
Résumé : | This dissertation examines the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement and, in particular, how it resonates in Belgium, in view of Belgium’s colonial history. The paper draws on social movements literature and on Charles Tilly’s theory. Based on that, interviews were conducted with Belgian anti-racist associations, Change ASBL and Bamko ASBL. According to the qualitative evidence gathered, Belgian BLM activists concentrate their strategies on previously completed actions while also pursuing more creativity and innovation. Furthermore, Belgian activists employ a range of tactics in order to be consistent with the particular characteristics of their country and people, with an emphasis on the aim of decolonizing the public space. |
