Mémoire
Résumé : | Urban art is an upcoming phenomenon today, sometimes mentioned as a new contemporary artform, which signifies many different artistic expressions evolved in public spaces in the last decades. These tendencies can be differentiated among others as graffiti, street art based on graphic design, 3D objects, or giant commissioned murals. With the spread of the internet urban art gained newfound attention, cultural recognition, institutional support, and has been commodified in many ways by public and private entities. This acknowledgement and commercialization process made urban art one of the most significant movements in recent history, which is now part of the mainstream culture, and leaves its mark on cityscapes throughout the world. This mémoire examines the context of this recognition process in the capital of Hungary, Budapest, in the form of a case study, based on an extensive general research on international scale. Since this evolution can be presented in Budapest mainly along murals, the focus of the case study is relying on this segment of urban art. |
