Résumé : The author develops the idea that cognitive and operative schemes of workers are organized around a reduction of uncertainty principle. Three themes are examined: a) uncertainty and experience; b) uncertainty and diagnosis; c) uncertainty and job organization. Taking researches realized at the 'Laboratoire de Psychologie industrielle et commerciale ULB' as examples the author shows: 1) how experience can reduce uncertainty related to the production process; 2) the importance of the concept of uncertainty in the ergonometric analysis of industrial systems control by human operators; and 3) the dissatisfaction which can arise from the uncertainty related to a reduction of individual control in automatization of office tasks.
