| Résumé : | Janie Pélabay, Kalypso Nicolaïdis and Justine Lacroix conversely argue that it is neither desirable nor possible to promote a homogenised and official vision of what it means to be European. As evidenced by the essays in this book, the EU polity is significantly supported or challenged by a great variety of diverging and competing stories about Europe. How could and should these stories participate in a public process of consensusbuilding on the European project? What normative constraints have to regulate their participation in such a process? Should it be open-ended or directed towards a more concrete finalité? What should be its basis - "civilisation", collective memory, normativity? Based on an overview of European intellectual stories, their conclusion examines what is both theoretically and practically at stake in the very idea of "narrative diversity" once applied to the EU. |
