Abstract de conférence
Résumé : Only 4 to 6%of studies in Sports Science focus exclusively on females, largely due to the lack of consensus regarding the effects of the menstrual cycle (MC) on performance and the limited availability of high-quality data. Hormonal fluctuations during spontaneous natural MC do not appear to affect aerobic capacity, clarifying the debate in the literature. Furthermore, oral contraception may slightly impair aerobic capacity. However, ventilatory control appears sensitive to the hormonal milieu, with higher ventilatory chemosensibility during progesterone-dominant phases. Progesterone may therefore subtly influence breathing control during exercise, and generate additional breathing cost.
