Résumé : Predynastic period rock art depicting Nilotic vessels and other images of ritual power is abundant in the Eastern and Western Deserts of Upper Egypt and Lower Nubia. Hieroglyphic inscriptions, including the first monumental early hieroglyphic Dynasty 0 panel and several First Dynasty serekhs, demonstrate a transition to the specific projection of royal power in the landscape. Inscriptions of Horus Qa-a in the Elkab region and northwest of Luxor may also provide Early Dynastic ‘commentary’ to earlier Predynastic rock art.
