Résumé : Abstract: This entry presents single-tier electoral systems, which represent the simplest form of tier system and the most widely used across democracies. In single-tier systems, politicians are elected in one of two ways: in separate electoral districts that are at the same level across the country, or in a single, nationwide, multi-member electoral district. This entry discusses the main differences between these two systems.
