| Résumé : | This volume represents the final volume of the family Labiatae forthe Flore d’Afrique centrale (Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda andBurundi). It deals with subfamily Nepetoideae (212 species, 5 subspecies, 17varieties) and subfamily Tectonoideae (1 species). An addendum to the previouslypublished subfamily Lamioideae is also included. The Upper Katanga region insouth-eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo is exceptionally rich in speciesof subfamily Nepetoideae and no less than forty-six species (i.e. 21%) areendemic to the region covered by the Flore d’Afrique centrale. Within this region,Coleus is by far the largest genus (89 species), followed by Haumaniastrum(27 species), which has its centre of diversity in Upper Katanga, and Ocimum(25 species). All genera and species come with a morphological description,synonyms, data on distribution, habitat, conservation information, vernacular namesand uses, as well as additional bibliography, taxonomic notes and the citationof representative herbarium specimens. User-friendly keys and a total of 115 linedrawings, nine colour illustrations and 94 colour photographs support the identificationprocess. |
