| Résumé : | This article offers a comprehensive scoping review of both English- and Chinese-language literature on the food practices and culinary encounters of African immigrants in China. Through a transversal analysis and critical synthesis, it identifies three pivotal themes that constitute what I term the “African foodscape in China”: (1) the transnational movement of people and foodways; (2) food spaces and place-making; (3) identities, belonging, and social interactions. The article also provides a socio-historical overview of African immigration to China since the 1950s, a crucial context for understanding African food practices in the diaspora. Drawing on seven scholarly publications, this thematic review reveals gaps in the existing literature and highlights promising directions for future research on the intersections of food and diaspora within bourgeoning Africa–China engagements. |
