| Résumé : | The aim of this paper is to push the transdisciplinary debate, as posited in the opening statement of this PhD seminar, into some controversial areas. It will do that by way of describing the conceptual evolution of Stedenbaan, an important rail infrastructure project extending between Leiden and Dordrecht and framed by the tension between transport and land-use disciplines. Further, it portrays all the characteristics of a full fledged TOD (Transit Oriented Development), joining in one planning solution: a high-quality transit system, fast, riding frequently and accessible on ground level; a comprehensive approach to mobility, trying to integrate door-to-door trips (before and after reaching the railway station); and diverse and high-density urban developments around railway stations. One of the things the Stedenbaan project shows is that it is the interscalarity and not (necessarily) the transdisciplinarity which if anything can underpin substantial changes in the urban planning discipline. |
