Résumé : Objectives : The Dhydro forum project aims to create a multilingual space on the Internet for terminology related to hydrography. This applied science has a great economic impact in view of the vital need for nautical maps and books in the development of human activities below and on the surface of the oceans. The annual volume of translations in the economic, scientific and administrative sectors linked with these activities is considerable. The consortium will put together services on an interactive web site aimed at terminologists, translators and specialists. This site will be based on the International Hydrographic Dictionary (IHD), a dictionary which is regularly published in English, French and Spanish by the International Hydrographic Bureau (IHB). These three independent volumes describe some 7,000 common concepts, many of which are abstract and not treated in traditional maritime dictionaries. As part of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) site the Dhydro forum will provide, amongst other things, the following features: - on-line consultation of the three versions of the IHD (English, French, and Spanish) merged in one multilingual database, and a selection of IHB publications collected in one textual database ; - on-line updates of each of the monolingual versions of the dictionary by authorised compilers, and discussion on the common determination of concepts in case of equivalency problems ; - establishment of an interactive discussion forum for users, experts, and terminologists specialised in hydrography with a view to the merging of multilingual terminological entries into one database that should serve as reference for the entire sector ;- creation of a consultation tool consisting of extracts from reference texts in order to locate terms referenced in the IHD. Given that the purpose is to demonstrate the ways in which an interactive Internet web site can improve, update and consolidate terminological data, the consortium will focus on technological solutions that are at once solid, accessible and reproducible. These should be aimed at keeping up with terminological developments so as to be able to define new concepts adequately, and to standardise definitions. What is more, the forum will be designed to be able to process an increased number of languages.
