| Résumé : | In Sub-Saharan (SS) Africa, the overall incidence of cancer is, in general, much lower than in more developed regions. However, it is expected to increase dramatically in the next decades, which will bring additional difficulties to its fragile healthcare systems. Here, we provide quantitative data on the burden of cancer in SS Africa, its relation with most important risk factors, and challenges to prevention and screening. We also explain the difficulties in cancer diagnosis and treatment, including surgery, radiotherapy, systemic treatment and palliative care. Finally, we provide our view for the upcoming years regarding cancer control in SS Africa. |
