Résumé : The transformation of mobility systems, particularly the shift towards active mobility, relies on moving from mere convictions to spontaneous, habitual practices. The appeal of sustainable mobility is influenced not only by social representations of these transport modes but also by the aesthetic experiences they offer. However, the aesthetics of cycling mobility demand new interdisciplinary approaches. This paper reports on an innovative approach investigated through two research projects focused on gender construction in cycling practices, equipment, and infrastructure: a collective FNRS research project on Brussels and an international comparison under the MSCA postdoctoral fellowship (SENCyclo project) examining everyday cycling cultures in Grenoble, Lausanne, Montreuil, and Strasbourg. The aim of this paper is to present the innovative "modo aesthetico" (Genard 2020) methodology, which combines qualitative and quantitative "situated statistics" analysis of cycling video-ethnography. This methodology, combined with ride-along interviews, enables the investigation of affective and sensory resonances between the various materialities of the bicycle (including the bicycle itself, accessories, street and infrastructure details, and regional networks) and gendered bodies. These resonances play a crucial role in the processes of gender construction, opening new research avenues into the detail of the inclusion of a diverse range of cyclists and the transformation of cycling practices and material cultures.
