Résumé : | This article analyses the French invention of the term “Islamo-leftism”, the evolution of its meanings over time, the ideological background and tendencies of the term’s users, and, finally, the interpretation of the facts that is supposed to demonstrate the reality of Islamo-leftism. It shows how the term was first coined in 1978 within the academic field of political science on Muslim worlds, where it could have been a new scientific concept for the examination of potential alliances and ideological rapprochement between Islamic and anti-capitalist intellectuals and/or movements. The second reactionary birth of Islamo-leftism is then analysed through the writings of Pierre-André Taguieff and Alexandre Del Valle who theorised Islamo-leftism as a Judeophobic alliance between progressive forces and Islamist movements that aimed at undermining the foundations of the French Republic. The study demonstrates that the thesis of Islamo-leftism is exemplary of the French white ignorance and a reactionary regime of truth. |
