Résumé : Cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase (CAD) and caffeic acid O-methyltransferase (COMT), two enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of lignin, have been down regulated by sense and/or antisense strategies in transgenic poplars. Kraft and TMP pulping experiments were carried out to determine the effect on pulp and paper properties. The results are explained with respect to the observed modification in the lignin structure.
