Abstract de conférence
Résumé : | Starting with non-human entities, like archaeologists, we will set out to reconstruct their worlds: How are they enrolled, absorbed or affected by extractivist practices? How else do they participate in extractivism? What power dynamics, exploitation, or depletion do they reveal? Or can they also point us to more subtle forms of relationships—mutual care, commensality, partial protection? Through which tools, gestures, transactions, practices are they made, used and maintained? What do they need to sustain, and what social, economic and environmental dynamics do the various practices associated with these elements entail, both locally and on a wider scale? Our collective challenge during this workshop will be to find ways to tell the stories we have been able to reconstruct based on collected fragments from field visits and lectures organized during the first days of the seminar, but also through the sharing of each participant’s practices and knowledge. How can we map them? How can we visualize them? Which relationships should we emphasize? How to qualify them? Through this collective exercise of assembling, gluing and drawing, the workshop aims to explore some possible means and methods for mapping extractivism. And since knowledge is transformative, we will seek to further amplify this power through speculation: the workshop will round off with a speculative exploration of how we can transform these relationships and bring about change, to tickle our ability to imagine a future otherwise. |
