| Résumé : | A few examples taken from different domains (mythology and literature, Hollywood cinema and pop music) help to highlight the ambiguity in representations of the ant in serious and popular culture. Sometimes valued, sometimes not, the insect appears either as a model of courage, foresight and moderation or as the archetype of the thief and the robber. It can be a symbol for the infinitely small or be figured as an anthropomorphic animal or even one of gigantic proportions, to the point of becoming a threat to the human species either by its number or by its size when abnormal. Characters turned into ants also contribute to shed light on this duality that the fabulists' portraits of the animal have led us to somewhat forget. // Quelques exemples empruntés à différents domaines (mythologie et littérature, cinéma hollywoodien et musique pop) permettent de souligner l'ambiguïté inhérente aux représentations de la fourmi dans la culture sérieuse et populaire. Tour à tour valorisé ou non, l'insecte apparaît soit comme un modèle de courage, de prévoyance et de modération, soit comme l'archétype du voleur et du chapardeur. Il peut symboliser l'infiniment petit, ou être figuré sous les traits d'un animal anthropomorphe, voire même aux proportions gigantesques, au point de devenir une menace pour l'espèce humaine soit par son nombre, soit par sa taille devenue hors normes. Les métamorphoses de personnages en fourmis contribuent aussi à éclairer cette ambivalence que les portraits de l'animal par les fabulistes nous ont amenés à oublier quelque peu. |
