| Résumé : | The Omission and Its Avatars: Terminological Challenges and Issues in Descriptive Translation Studies In this study, Ph. Anckaert gives an overview of the terms proposed over the last thirty years by French-speaking terminologists to designate the various forms of non-translation, which are either errors or procedures. It emerges that there is a high degree of terminological uncertainty sur-rounding the notion of omission. To overcome this difficulty, which is detrimental to the quality of translation studies, the author proposes to abandon the use of the term omission to designate a translation procedure and to use effacement (deletion) as a hyperonym for implicitation, deletion of heterolingualism and other procedures that remain to be identified or validat éd.
