Résumé : | This commentary essay examines two salient debates arising simultaneously within gender studies and migration studies and shaping the direction of gender and migration research. Paying attention to the concept of social justice, it revisits the critiques around intersectionality approach and brings to the fore the urgency of adopting widely a reflexive approach in migration studies. This exercise results in three observations: first, the risk of reifying the ‘otherness’ of the already socially ‘othered’ people should not be overlooked when adopting an intersectionality approach; second, the urgency for critical reflexivity in migration studies magnifies the importance of processual ontology in knowledge (re)production and the key role of researchers; and third, the research field of gender and migration offers a wide space for theoretical, methodological, and policy reflections, as well as an intermediary ground between gender studies and migration studies, where social justice can be fully realised. |
