Résumé : Recent progress in the characterization, synthesis, reactivity and application of four-membered ring heterocycles with three heteroatoms with at least one oxygen, sulfur or nitrogen atom are covered in this chapter for the period since 2007. Theoretical and structural methods, including X-ray diffraction analysis, NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, of some representative compounds are first described. Then, their synthesis and reactivity are discussed with an emphasis on the most important transformations reported recently. The last section is devoted to highlight some applications of these four-membered heterocycles which have been used in various domains, such as in catalysis.
