Résumé : Human pituitary prolactin : radioimmunologic detection and serum levels during pregnancy. An immunological cross reaction between ovine and human prolactin allowed to detect radioimmunologically the human hormone in 200 mcl aliquots of serum. The absence of cross reaction neither with human growth-hormone nor with human chorionic gonadotropin and somatomammotropin made it valid to determine maternal levels of prolactin in serum during pregnancy. Prolactin serum levels rose rapidly between 8 and 20 weeks and then more slowly until maximal values were reached during the last month of gestation. The physiological significance of this prolactin secretion remains unclear.
