Résumé : Preliminary investigations carried out at the Aero-Thermo-Mechanics Department (ATM) of Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) with paraffin doped with magnesium diboride (MgB2) showed that this additive has the potential to improve some characteristics of the pure paraffin grains, such as the average regression rate and the average specific mass, but with negligible impact on the structural resistance of the fuel grain. The combination of pure paraffin with polymers and metal powders, and carbon-based nanotube, shows that it is possible to improve the strength of the grain with minimum impact over the fuel regression rate. In this study, a comparison between different fuel formulas is presented, with a review of the principal additives used with paraffin-based fuels, and the results of burning tests using the MOUETTE slab-burner.
