Résumé : Pain catastrophizing is a phenomena characterized by three dimensions, rumination, magnification, and helplessness. It adversely affects subject’s coping behavior toward pain and pain-related outcomes. The Pain Catastrophizing Scale has been developed and is regularly used to assess pain catastrophizing by healthy subjects, and patients with acute and chronic pain. Susceptible subjects may have demographic or psychological predisposition. Since pain catastrophizing is a modifiable variable, the scale is regularly used to evaluate its evolution under specific therapies destined to reduce it. Correction of this maladaptive coping style is a key factor in regard of a multidisciplinary approach of chronic pain.
