Résumé : | It is not a natural legacy or obvious using one’s leisure time for travelling The desire and nowadays practice of going on a holiday, in Western societies, results from a long series of historical bifurcations. Within this chapter an attempt is made to recall and clarify those processes. For that reason, a brief social history of leisure and time use, starting from the pre-industrial age, is unfolded. |
