Résumé : Au chant XIV, Ulysse rentre à Ithaque déguisé en mendiant et retrouve son fidèle serviteur Eumée. Malgré l’apparente communion des deux vieillards, l’interaction verbale entre eux se rapproche davantage de l’ἀγών, ‟confrontation”, comme le révèle l’étude de la catch-word technique, ‟des échos sémantiques”. Selon ce procédé, l’un des interlocuteurs reprend en écho un mot ou une expression de l’autre, en en modifiant la signification, pour atteindre un but argumentatif. Nous voudrions étudier les répétitions lexicales et phoniques que l’on retrouve dans les deux mensonges du mendiant et le récit autobiographique d’Eumée, aux chants XIV et XV, et examiner quelles stratégies narratives et/ou rhétoriques elles servent.Abstract: In Book XIV, Odysseus comes back to Ithaca disguised as a beggar and finds his faithful servant Eumaeus. In spite of the apparent communion of the two old men, the verbal interaction between them is much more like the ἀγών, « confrontation », as the study of the catch-word technique, “semantics echoes”, reveals it. According to this narrative process, one of the interlocutors takes up in echo a word or an expression used by the other, while modifying its meaning, in order to meet an argumentative goal. I would like to study the lexical and phonic repetitions that are to be found respectively in the lies of the beggar and Eumaeus’ autobiographical tale, in the Books XIV and XV, and examine the narrative and rhetoric strategies they serve.
