Résumé : | The idea of a selective culture medium for Campylobacter was first of all proposed by the veterinary surgeons. Since 1949' the importance of infection due to C. fetus in cattle was described by Dutch authors. No way of diagnosing existed for the male contaminator; trials of isolating the bacteria in the preputial sac have been carried out. Florent, 2 in 1956, used blood agar medium to which he added brilliant green. Plastridge and Koths 3 used the selection of certain antibiotics: bacitracin 2 IU/ml and novobiocin 2 µg/ml. Bisping et al. 4 improved the medium by using a thioglycollate base and a third antibiotic, polymyxin. Plummer et al., 5 had the idea of slowly centrifuging the stool, then filtering it by means of a Millipore® filter 0.65 µg: only Campylobacters go through the filter, whereas most other bacteria are stopped. |
