Résumé : The immission of atmospheric Cd in terrestrial ecosystems leads to an important accumulation in vegetation and in the upper layer of the soil. In the vicinity of roasting and smelting Zn ore facilities, values as high as 10 to 400 times normal values have been observed in plants. Plant specificity plays an important part in Cd accumulation. Road traffic also leads to Cd accumulation on several trophic levels. Plant species, growing on abnormal soils containing unusually high Cd quantities, but without atmospheric contamination, do not accumulate Cd as much as plant species submitted to industrial fumes, which suggests an adaptation mechanism by root blocking of Cd.
