Résumé : Based on a retrospective study of 10 neonatal adrenal hemorrhages, that have occurred in 7 babies, the authors analyse the ultrasound characteristics of this pathology. The ultrasound pattern appeared variable. There were 3 cases where the hemorrhage appeared anechoic; one case where the hemorrhage appeared calcified and 3 babies where a definite evolution could be clearly observed, the pattern varying from echoic to anechoic in these cases. This evolution is related to the US appearance of blood during stasis, clot formation and subsequent degeneration of the clot. Based on this evolution and on a regression of the size of the hemorrhage, the diagnosis of neonatal adrenal hemorrhage can be accurately approached, the other diagnostic procedures being unnecessary in most cases.
