Résumé : Comparing Canadian and Australian novels, this essay investigates the possible ramifications between the mode of magic realism and the field of material ecocriticism. It argues that this mode mobilises a “compost poetics/aesthetics” manifest in Alexis Wright’s Carpentaria, Thomas King’s The Back of the Turtle, and Thomas Wharton’s Icefields.
