Disadvantages · Slower reepithelialization [3] · Not applicable in exudative wounds · Inconvenience of repeated applications (especially at night, may ruin bedsheets) · Greasy and not cosmetically nice · Increased pain and erythema during recovery phase [3] · Risky for developing bacterial infections if no antiseptic is included · Risky for sensitization to topical antibiotics (notably bacitracin) CLOSED DRESSINGS These moisture-retentive dressings attempt to create the optimal wound environment (temperature, humidity, pH, growth factors, proteinases) that is necessary for wound healing [1].
